Soviets
SEPTEMBER 1992 Khabarovsk Airport is the air transport hub of the Soviet Far East. Here, Russian and Ukrainian traders are en route from Harbin, Manchuria to the European Soviet cities. With them are bundles of down coats and polyester shirts, cheap in China but scarce in the Union. They must wait a week or more in the air terminal for the chance to bribe their way onto a flight going West.
