APRIL 1991 A roughneck with a drilling bit in the Samotlor oil field, Siberia. This is one of three Soviet oil fields that have produced since the 1920s. The others are Sakhalin in the Pacific and Baku on the Azerbaijani coast of the Caspian Sea.
