APRIL 1991 Novodevichy Cemetery is Moscow’s Père Lachaise, the burial place for VIPs. Gogol, Khrushchev, and Molotov are here. Following custom, this General’s family built and cares for his tombstone. The head is wrapped in plastic to protect the fragile marble from air pollution and acid rain.
