MAY 1992 Installing an irrigation pipeline on the Lenin Collective Farm, near Byshkek (Frunze), Kyrgyzstan. The pipe needs a protective coat of hot tar before it is buried. As with seemingly all Soviet agriculture, men operate machines and women do the heavy lifting.
